What degree is offered by CharlotteLaw?
CharlotteLaw offers a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
Do you offer a part-time program?
Yes. Students have the option to attend either a part-time day or part-time evening program to complete the J.D. degree. Part-time students enroll in 9-12 credit hours per semester and can complete the program in 4 years.
How many classes constitutes full-time?
13 credit hours constitute a full-time student. A typical full-time student will enroll in 5 courses per semester and can complete the J.D. program in 3 years.
What are the required courses?
CharlotteLaw’s first year curriculum includes: Civil Procedure I and II, Contracts I and II, Lawyering Process I and II, Property I and II, Torts I and II, Criminal Law and the Passport to Effective Practice. In addition to the first year curriculum required courses for graduation include: Business Associations, Commercial Law, Constitutional Law I and II, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Wills, Trusts and Estates and Professional Responsibility. Each student must satisfy an advanced writing requirement, a clinical/skills requirement and a community service and pro bono requirement.
Does CharlotteLaw offer specialty curriculum?
Not in the first year. However, as our program develops and electives are added, we will be considering some specialization streams that reflect the particular expertise of our faculty and the needs of the Charlotte and the North Carolina profession and community.

Admissions Process and Requirements
What is the application deadline?
CharlotteLaw offers rolling admission, meaning we will continue to accept applications on an ongoing basis. Qualified candidates will be offered acceptance upon completion of their application.
What items must be submitted to complete my application?
The following items are required:
- A completed and signed application
- An official Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score taken within 5 years of the application date
- An official Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) report containing official transcripts for all college work
- 2 letters of recommendation (must be submitted with LSDAS report)
- A personal statement. Suggested topics include:
- Reasons for wanting to attend law school
- Unique characteristics about yourself
- Challenges you have faced
- Information you feel is important for the admission committee to make an informed decision on your admission
- A $50.00 application fee applies to re-applicants only.
- Written explanation of any Legal Record (Law Violations, Pending Charges, Disciplinary Action)
The following items are optional:
1. A resume
2. An addendum explaining any gaps in the application
How do I register for the LSAT and LSDAS?
You can register online for the LSAT and LSDAS at www.lsac.org The code for CharlotteLaw is 5499.
Is it necessary to prepare for the LSAT?
Definitely! The LSAT score is a crucial part of the law school admission process. We recommend you take the exam if and only if you are fully prepared.
Does CharlotteLaw average LSAT scores?
If an applicant has multiple LSAT scores, the highest score is used in the admission process.
Is there a required undergraduate program of study?
Law students must have received a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Because a law degree can be used in a variety of ways it would be counterproductive to be prescriptive in area of study. While no specific pre-law curriculum required, academic experience in the humanities, history, the physical and social sciences, mathematics and language skills are deemed important, as are English composition and creative writing
Does CharlotteLaw offer interviews as part of the admission process?
Interviews are not part of the normal admission process. Students should contact the Admissions Office with any questions or concerns in regards to their applications. On occasion, the Admissions Office will request an interview if more information is needed to reach an admission decision. Students will be notified in this instance.
How are applications evaluated?
CharlotteLaw offers selective admission after a comprehensive review of all academic and personal information provided. The LSAT and undergraduate GPA are strong indicators of a student's aptitude to experience success in law school. The admission committee considers work experience, postgraduate work, demonstrated leadership, service to the community, extracurricular activities and other information submitted with the application in making an admission decision.
The admissions process is governed by the American Bar Association Standards for Approval of Law Schools and Interpretations. In particular, Standard 501 provides that:
(a) A law school's admission policies shall be consistent with the objectives of its educational program and the resources available for implementing those objectives.
(b) A law school shall not admit applicants who do not appear capable of satisfactorily completing its educational program and being admitted to the bar.

Where is the school located?
The Charlotte School of Law recently moved to a new campus in the Bryant Park development at the Western Gateway to Charlotte’s Center City District. Our address is 2145 Suttle Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28208.
Does CharlotteLaw offer student housing?
No. Many housing options are available to students in Charlotte. Links to real estate and the community can be found on our website.

Is CharlotteLaw accredited?
The Charlotte School of Law has been provisionally approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association since 2008.
