Academic Success
The Charlotte School of Law Program for Academic Success (CPAS)
CPAS is a program of academic support for all students that is geared toward fostering continuous improvement through skill building in group Workshops, substantive reinforcement through the Teaching Assistant program and individual counseling on law school success strategies. All students (day and evening) have access to the Academic Success professionals who coordinate the program.
CPAS is designed to create a safe learning environment so that students can explore what strategies work best for them based on their individual learning style. Students are also encouraged to learn new skills that will help them thrive in the law school classroom, succeed on law school exams and ultimately pass the Bar Exam. Students are likewise exposed to analytical and study skills during sections of the required Passport to Effective Practice course, many sections of which are taught by the Director of Academic Success and Academic Success Counselor.
A discreet collection of hornbooks and study aids is located in the law library for student use. Available resources include hornbooks, practice exams in various formats, flashcards, audio CDs, and law school success books. Students may browse available titles by subject using the online library catalog, or they can discuss with an Academic Success Counselor which resources might be best suited to their purpose. Study groups and individual students are welcome to study in the Academic Outcomes Resource Room on the third floor when it is not otherwise in use for meetings.
Anthea des Etages, the Director, maintains regular office hours, a liberal open-door policy and availability for evening appointments. Her office is located in Room 359.
The schedule of Skills workshops for each semester can be downloaded here and from the CPAS webpage on TWEN.
