Graduation Requirements

CharlotteLaw’s program of legal education provides the opportunity for students to earn a law degree by successfully completing a full-time or part-time course of study. Graduation is conditioned upon:

  • Attaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 in at least ninety (90) credit hours of course work;
  • Completing a minimum of sixty (60) credit hours in residence at CharlotteLaw and matriculating at CharlotteLaw for a minimum of twenty-four (24) months;
  • Successfully completing all required courses;
  • Satisfying the advanced legal writing and skills/clinic requirements; and
  • Successfully completing all required pro-bono and community service hours.

Credit hours are awarded for courses in which the candidate for the degree has earned a grade of "D-" or better, or in the case of a course that is graded pass/fail a "P," or for which the student has received advanced standing credit on the basis of work at another law school.

Unless waived by the Academic Standards Team for good cause, students must complete all degree requirements within 5 years of beginning studies as a full-time student (6 years of beginning studies as a part-time student). The faculty will not grant a waiver that would result in a student completing the program more than 7 years after beginning.

Degrees with honors will be awarded to students whose cumulative grade point average at the time of graduation is as follows:

Summa cum laude - 3.75
Magna cum laude - 3.50
Cum laude - 3.25
